Why this page is not a generic homepage.
Self-employed is a tax status, not a personality. If you work for yourself as a sole trader we handle the registration, the records and the Self Assessment, including the payments on account that catch people in their second year.
Countplus acts for self employed from Nelson and Warrington, and online across the UK. Same-day reply before 4pm. A named accountant, not a rotating queue. Typical packages from £59/month, confirmed before we start.
What usually went wrong
What self employed tell us on the first call.
Every one of these is fixable. Most of them are fixable in the first month.
- I did not know I had to register
- The deadline is earlier than people think. Penalties start quietly.
- Second-year tax shock
- Payments on account feel like being billed twice. They are not, if you plan them.
- A box of receipts
- Allowable is a legal test, not a vibe.
What you actually get.
Everything below is in the self-employed package at £59/month. Nothing here is an upsell.

Questions from self employed
Once you have taxable self-employed income, HMRC expects you in Self Assessment by 5 October after the tax year. Do not wait for them to write.
If they genuinely work in the business, yes, at a commercial rate. If they do not, no.
Only when you cross the threshold, or when registering early is actually cheaper. We watch the rolling 12 months.
